Cooperation with Germany develops

On November 27-28 Ufa was visited by Dr. Renate Schimkoreit, Consul General of German Democratic Republic in Ekaterinburg. This was Dr. Schimkoreit’s first visit to Bashkortostan Republic and its capital after her appointment to this position in August this year.

The agenda of the visit was full of various meetings and activities. Consul General was welcomed by Murtaza Gubaidullovich Rakhimov, President of Bashkortostan Republic who expressed his satisfaction with the pace of development of cooperation between Germany and Bashkortostan in various economic, healthcare, educational and cultural spheres. Dr. Schimkoreit also held meetings with Boris G. Kolbin, Minister of foreign economic relations, trade and entrepreneurship of Bashkortostan, Pavel R. Kachkaev, head of Ufa city municipal district administration. The main discussion topic at the meetings was strengthening the existing and developing perspective economic ties. Significant interest of German business circles in our region was testified by the presence of a high-rank delegation from German World Trade Centers Association.

Dr. Schimkoreit participated in the Fourth conference of Bashkortostan-Germany friendship society. Next year Bashkir-German cooperation will celebrate its 45th anniversary, and the society will celebrate its 40th birthday. Year 2009 will be officially named the Year of Bashkir-German friendship and cooperation and marked with numerous activities both in Bashkortostan and Germany. The official opening of the Friendship year will be proclaimed on the Day of Diplomatic Service of the Russian Federation (February 10) with cultural contests, art and photo exhibitions, film festivals, international conferences and delegations’ exchange to follow.

A special event of the visit took place last Friday evening. Dr. Schimkoreit participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of future House of German Economy with Ufa World Trade Center incorporated in it and in the official opening ceremony of new Volkswagen dealership showroom and service center.
