2009 – The year of Bashkir-German friendship and cooperation

On February 10th Ufa was visited by Dr. Walter Jurgen Schmidt, Extraodinary and Plenipotentiary ambassador of German Federal Republic in the Russian Federation. This is his second visit to Ufa and Bashkortostan Republic, and this time it is dedicated to the Year of Bashkir-German friendship and cooperation.

The agenda of the visit was full of various meetings and activities. The ambassador was welcomed by Murtaza Gubaidullovich Rakhimov, President of Bashkortostan Republic who expressed his satisfaction with the pace of development of cooperation between Germany and Bashkortostan in various economic, healthcare, educational and cultural spheres. Dr. Schmidt also held meetings with Boris G. Kolbin, Minister of foreign economic relations, trade and entrepreneurship of Bashkortostan,and Pavel R. Kachkaev, head of Ufa city municipal district administration. On February the 9th the official delegation participated in the official opening of the Friendship year in Bashkortostan Republic which was held at Congress Hall.
The main discussion topic at the meetings was strengthening the existing and developing perspective economic ties. Significant interest of German business circles in our region was testified by the presence of a high-rank delegation from German World Trade Centers Association and other companies already doing business in Russia and the Republic or wishing to enter our market.
