Ufa ranks sixth among top 100 large Russian cities
Source: Research and Information Department The “Urbanika” Institute of Land Use Planning (St. Petersburg) conducted a research called “Integral Rating of 100 Largest Russian Cities” (Top-100) developed in cooperation with the Russian Architests’ Union. According to the results of the rating, Ufa ranks sixth among Russian cities and is ahead of Novosibirsk (8th place), Moscow (9th place), Kazan (14th place), Yekaterinburg (25th place), Omsk (26th place), Chelyabinsk (33th place) and Samara (35th place). The top five cities are Surgut, Tyumen, Krasnodar, Niznevartovsk and St. Petersburg.
The leaders of the rating are distinguished by comparatively high living standards and quality of urban environment.
On October 20th the rating was presented to the public within the framework of the X All-Russia Forum “Strategic planning in Russian regions and cities: Resources for development”.
The objective of the rating is to find a large city with the best “cost of living – life quality” ratio. It allows to compare and evaluate the efficiency of city policies aimed at increasing the attractiveness of the city for its inhabitants.
In the course of the research a lot of important parameters were considered, such as urban environment quality – housing per person, availability of modern consumption formats, volume of traffic on city roads, crime rate, city lighting, external transport accessibility, provision of urban amenities, favourable natural conditions, level of environmental pollution. The cost of living was defined based on the possibility of purchasing own housing and renting a one-room apartment, the level of living expenses, the level of expenses on housing and communal services, the purchasing power of the population. |
